beach day

'

we had a marvelous beach day with Melanie on Saturday. The tide was super far out so first we walked all the way to the water. We learned the whole way there as Melanie - who would live in the ocean if she could - explained about clams and sea grass and sea gull tracks. As we got closer to the water Elijah moved faster and faster. He LOVES the waves. He and Eva were giddy to be running and splashing in them. Anders favored the mud and at one point tried to eat some leaving him with a muddy mustache. We had a picnic with the first fresh raspberries of the season!!! Then more exploring and finally building sandcastles. From the photos it looks like we're building in scum, but it's just seaweed and the sand there was just right for building. Elijah was pretty upset to leave he loves building so much. Please note the village of turtles that Melanie and Eva made (they are the lumps with the seaweed on their backs).

In the summer of 2004 Melanie and I had many beach adventures (check out these links for some adventures from that summer - beach day, improvised swim suit) We marveled that now, six years later we are still friends (closer than ever) doing the same things, but now there are three kids to share in the fun. We had to take our signature "summer fling" photo - we have many from that summer. Do we look like we could be any happier?

No, we couldn't be happier! Thank you so much for an awesome day! Oh, and thanks for posting links to the old hummingbird posts...what a great trip down memory lane. I love you so much, and I'm so glad that 6 years later we are closer than ever and have little people to share our love with. xoxo

i remember reading your summer fling posts back before i had a blog of my own. i have to admit i felt a little envious of the friendship the 2 of you shared because i was homesick with no friends of my own at the time.

you both look absolutely gorgeous, by the way!
